Halloween Spirit

The month of October is fabulous. The weather is changing and you get to decorate for Halloween! This year my favorite decoration I made were bleeding candles. I bought some premade ones at the store but then realized I needed more. And of course Martha had it on her website...much more economical and super easy.

Beautiful felt flowers.

If you have been to our Perfect Dressipe shop you know we have some lovely felt flower clips and gadget pouches. I find these flowers to be so intricate and delightful. I can tell they would take forever but I think I am willing to try. Check them out on Not Martha.

All about doilies

Doilies are pretty fun. I think making them is quite an art. I remember growing up with handmade ones by my great grandmother and how beautiful the intricate details were. And I think doilies are making a comeback..in a very modern and unexpected way.

I LOVE this giant doily rug by Ladies & Gentlemen and I am most definitely going to buy their book, Crafting a Meaningful Home by Meg Mateo Ilasco, when it comes out in the fall just so I can make this.

How about some rubber doily coasters? Check out these adorable ones by Gretel.

And then why not make your own doily object. Use this tutorial by paper n stitch to spruce up some things around your house. Maybe I'll try this one out this weekend.

Heart love

I have always wanted to try felting and I think that this looks like a great introductory project. And perfect for the holiday right around the corner. I spotted it on ReadyMade, originally by Liz at Felt Cafe where she so kindly provides the tutorial (and lots of other fun things to make. Happy heart making!

Another project I want to try is this light bulb vase from ReadyMade. What a great way to upscale a household item into something unique. And it looks super easy.

Fun diy project!

How adorable are these little Altoid tin toolboxes. Perfect gift for any handy dad, boyfriend, or man in your life. I think I might have to make some for myself....in fluorescent pink (I'm on a fluorescent pink kick lately). You can find the whole tutorial right here on Alpha+Mom.

Styrofoam Ornaments How-To

Because it is December 1st, it is officially the Christmas season and decorating time! Growing up as a kid, my favorite ornament that I HAD to hang up on the tree was this old red ball with gold pins and a tassel that was my grandmother's. I felt I needed to create something as a tribute to my grandmother.

So I got some Styrofoam balls, stick pins with pearly-colored heads and large sequins. Simply stick the pins through the sequin into the ball and ta-da! a sparkly retro-esque ornament.

Some other ornaments I made with the Styrofoam included hot gluing sparkly pom poms all over one. And another that I covered with snowy white yarn and utilized those fabulous felt cut outs with adhesive already on them! I had a blast making my ornaments...do you have any great ornament diy ideas?

DIY Ideas

Some of the newest DIY ideas that appeared on Design*sponge are wonderful and I cannot wait to do them for our new house!

First of all check out this pure genius. Recycling old jars, vases, and tins and redoing to make them look like milk glass. All you need is puffy paint and spray paint. Who doesn't love a project with puffy paint?

Next up a curtain/fabric screen made up of felt circles. I have always wanted to make an adorable curtain but somehow everytime I try they just end of looking like a sheet on a wall. I hope this one turns out better for me!

And lastly do you have a bunch of books lying around that you cannot part with. Check out this great idea for upcycling them into a side table. All of the books create such a great pattern and intersting visual. Happy diy-ing!

Check out this great project on how to dress up some furniture by decoupaging with a poster. Looks so simple and the piece turned out great. I will have to keep this in my back pocket to try sometime. To see full instructions on how-to, visit the DIY website.
