Happy Memorial Day!

Are you as excited for this weekend as I am?!? Who doesn't love a holiday weekend and with that comes bbq's galore. I wanted to share my baked beans recipe I will be making tomorrow. A great one from Bon Appetit with a little family modifications. Enjoy!

Hot and Smokey Baked Beans
  • 1 lb bacon
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 1/4 cups purchased barbecue sauce
  • 3/4 cup dark beer
  • 1/4 cup mild-flavored (light) molasses
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons (packed) dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2-3 mince jalapenos (substituted for the original canned diced green chilies)
  • 6 15- to 16-ounce cans of assorted beans--pinto, kidney, black, white, etc. (the original recipe called for all Great Northern beans) drained
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Transfer to paper towels and drain. Transfer 2 1/2 tablespoons bacon drippings from skillet to large bowl. Finely chop bacon; add to bowl. Add onion and next 7 ingredients to bowl and whisk to blend. Whisk in 4 to 6 teaspoons chipotle chilies, depending on spiciness desired. Stir in beans. Transfer bean mixture to 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Bake uncovered until liquid bubbles and thickens slightly, about 1 hour. Cool 10 minutes.

Recipe found here.

Three Potato Four

With a great name like Three Potato Four, how can you not already love this mom and pop shop who have everything from old letters to furniture to paper. It is lovely. Some of my favorite things I found (besides the letter "a"'s they have) are this Manhattan poster (I love NY),

this paper file (just plain adorable) and

this chickadee vase (becuse my grandmother used to song me a song about chickadees).

DIY grocery bag

I've made a few grocery bags from old tshirts and they work great! They hold so much it is so surprising. However, when I saw this DIY grocery bag I fell in love. It just adds a great level of detail. Full how-to here.

The Working Proof

Have you heard of The Working Proof? It is a website which allows artists to post their artwork to sell and for each print sold a percentage goes towards a charity of the artist's choice. Started by the founders of Sub-Studio Design this little project is genius. (P.S. Their studio looks pretty cool)

I loved this Alice in Wonderland inspired print as well as the shoe one. Such beautiful prints. I think I might just have to get the shoe one.

I wish

on this particular Wednesday that I was market shopping in some European city. Seems pretty random but I have been itching to style a bookshelf I haven't even built yet and I think the market is the place I need to be. Shopping while eating gelato...yes that is what I wish I was doing.

I want..

this bookcase by Utrechtverplettert. Isn't it so much fun?!

Perfect Dressipe around town

Its so nice to see people around town wearing our garments! Hayes McNeil of Royal Coffee Bar next to the downtown Phoenix Public Market wears our men's tie tee. If you haven't had coffee from him yet, then you haven't had the best. Grab a cup of joe and check out his new jackelope. And Jennifer wears our Bird in a Cage tee while in line at Giant Coffee. Email us pictures if you wear a Perfect Dressipe article and we will post it on our blog!

Bunky Boutique Grand Re-Opening!

On Saturday we went to the Bunky Boutique grand re-opening. Rachel, the owner, moved her store to 1437 North 1st Street #103 across from the Phoenix Art Museum and down the street from the Phoenix Central Library. It is a great location right next to Matt Pool's (owner of Matt's Big Breakfast and The Roosevelt) newest venture, Giant Coffee. Stop in and buy some unique gifts and have a cup of joe in their new space. Bunky was designed by architect Hayes McNeil (owner of Royal Coffee Bar downtown). His use of recycled concrete formwork looks amazing! Check out his stools he designed for sale in the dressing rooms too.

Warby Parker

Have you heard of Warby Parker? They are an eyeglass company with a genius idea. They create great looking eyewear for a reasonable price and even better yet you can upload a picture to "try on" the frames or send for a sample of the frames before ordering. I think I must try them next eyeglass prescription. ANNND every time you buy a pair they donate one to someone in need. If that is not reason enough I do not know what is. Do you have a pair from them and love them?

P.S. You can buy a monocle too!

I heart.

This Vintage Purple 60s clock found on etsy. What is your favorite vintage find?

Darling mobiles.

Are you expecting? Or know someone who is? These lovely and affordable bamboo wood mobiles by petit collage would be a great gift. I particularrily like the forest or jungle friends.

Beautiful

Bright colors and reclaimed wood? How can you go wrong. Check out these tree ring paintings by Tracy Melton. I think these are truly beautiful and would such a great installation in any house.

I'm intrigued...

by these little delicious looking chap sticks. Have you seen Hurraw! Balm (such a great name). An all organic, vegan chap stick promising not to leave you lips dry. And I love the shape.

Beautiful felt flowers.

If you have been to our Perfect Dressipe shop you know we have some lovely felt flower clips and gadget pouches. I find these flowers to be so intricate and delightful. I can tell they would take forever but I think I am willing to try. Check them out on Not Martha.

Why didn't I think of that?

So I get that people love cake at wedding. What I think is a little weird is freezing the top layer for an anniversary.

Which is why I think these lovely cake plates by Clara French, specifically designed and customized to your wedding is such a great idea. Now you can still take the cake home but reuse it over and over again. I think my favorite part is the glaze dripping off the stands....such a delicate and beautiful detail.

P.S. Her website is adorable.

Wednesday wish (a day late)

So far not doing so good about posting Wednesday wishes. But here is one...

Sitting in the BEAUTIFUL designed chaise lounge by uhuru inspired by the roller coasters of Coney Island. Where would I be sitting?.....I think this week I would want to be in my parents backyard under the canopies of our maple trees staring up at the crisp, blue Pacific Northwest sky.

New shirt obsession

How fun are these and don't they just make you feel rebellious? Or want to write on them? These lined shirts are by Brooklyn artists Beka Goedde and Rachel Ostrow. You can find them here on Artware Editions.

Oh Summer TOMS

Have you see the new summer shoes out for TOMS? They have plaid and draw strings and stripes and wedges! Oh my! They are getting to have some wonderfully designed shoes.

Inspiring color

Have you seen this project by paint company Dulux. Let's Colour goes to countries around the world and introduces fresh paint into dreary neighborhoods. How much fun would it be to be one of the volunteers...I should look into that. And the tagline is great too-"Color your world", so inspiring.

New diy project planned.

I have to admit I am IN LOVE with this shelving unit made from pine wood and plumbing piping. Our good friends at SeeSaw Designs made it for their studio and it is stunning in person. I love how it can be customized and the simplicity yet great detail. I think it is going to be perfect for my third bedroom/sewing room. I cannot wait to get started!

End of the Year Pick Me Up

Do your kids need a little something extra to get them through the school year? Or do you just need something for your work week? Check out this diy project for a lined paper lunch bag. Seen on Design*Sponge awhile ago I think this is adorable.

Organization

I am getting the bug to organize and deep clean the house. One of my biggest challenges is what to do with shoes. I have the bucket filled with tennis shoes and flip flops then all the heels in boxes. Boxes take up so much space. I love this little shoe rail by Design Within Reach, so simple and clean.

AMAZING!

This is probably one of the most intricate, beautiful pieces of art I have seen in a long time. And something I would actually spend the money on. Check out Karen who makes hand-cut maps of cities. She will not only do any city in the world, but also custom orders and specific neighborhoods. I love the Dublin one above.

Oh Anthropologie!

How I love thee. Isn't this chair just divine?!? I would give anything right now to be sitting in it on a beach with a fruity drink....that is going to be my Wednesday wish.

(P.S. I think this is a great new thing I might start...Wednesday wishes. What would be yours?)

How pretty!

Have you seen this intricately detailed paper art by Dutch artist Ferry Staverman. I love all the different colors and shapes of these sculptures. They would be beautiful for a wedding or a baby room and how fun would it be to have a whole forest of them. Sounds enchanting!

Watch obsession

I used to be a big watch person. And then I fell in love with a crazy expensive one and talked myself out of loving watches so I would not spend the money.

However, these wooden watches by Mistura might pull me back in. I think they are gorgeous! I especially love this Ferrara one.
